It's called self-sabotage and we do it all the time when there's something we want (like a new job or attention) and we don't know it (we stuff it or won't face it) so we sabotage to get it, ie, doing something stupid to get the result we ultimately desire. I am like the dissenters in the one case, the punishment wasn't enough.
